Pairing & first-time setup
How to pair the FanLamp Pro app with your ceiling fan light within the 5-second window.
The most common reason a FanLamp Pro pairing fails is the 5-second window: the app's + Add Device button must be tapped within 5 seconds of powering the fan on from the wall switch. Miss the window and the fan is no longer discoverable until you power-cycle it again.
The pairing recipe
- Turn Bluetooth on in your phone settings. On Android, also grant the FanLamp Pro app the Location permission — the OS gates Bluetooth scanning behind Location, even though the app doesn't use your GPS.
- Power-cycle the fan: flip the wall switch off, wait 10 seconds, then flip it back on.
- Within 5 seconds of restoring power, open FanLamp Pro and tap + Add Device.
- The light should blink twice to confirm pairing.
- Name the device and assign it to a room.
Pro tip. If a fan refuses to pair, leave the wall switch off for 60 seconds before retrying. This forces the on-board Bluetooth module to fully reset.
Why the 5-second window exists
The compatible ceiling-fan controllers ship a Bluetooth Low Energy module that only advertises as pairable for the first few seconds after power-up. This is a battery-saving / security choice by the OEM. After the window closes the module stays connected to whichever phone paired it last (or goes silent if no phone is around).
This is also why pairing breaks when a wall switch is flipped — the BLE module reboots and may end up in a different state from what the app last saw.
When the fan still won't pair
- Bluetooth permission missing — open Settings → FanLamp Pro and grant Bluetooth, Local Network and (on Android) Location.
- Another phone is still paired — power off the fan at the wall switch for 60+ seconds, then retry from scratch.
- Brand-new fan, never powered — install per the OEM manual first, then start the pairing recipe above.
- Fan firmware is older than v2 — some early production batches require the fan to be in pairing mode via a remote button combo. Check the printed quick-start card that came with the fixture.
